Success as a Psychology Major, Second Edition, is an essential guide for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology. Based on feedback from students, faculty, and career-preparation experts, authors David E. Copeland and Jeremy Ashton Hauska help readers maximize their college experience by honing study and communication skills, overcoming procrastination, conducting research and preparing for life after graduation. The fully updated Second Edition includes coverage of artificial intelligence (AI), discussion of the APA Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major, and two new chapters on how to build a professional network and practical advice for pursuing a career with a bachelor's degree. Each chapter begins and ends with the story of a real student to illustrate the concepts from the chapter, and each section ends with specific "action steps" to help students, no matter their background or prior experiences, achieve their goals.
Jeremy Ashton Houska is a psychological scientist, educator, and higher education leader whose career has focused on helping students, faculty, and institutions use evidence to learn, adapt, and improve. He earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Before moving into higher education leadership, he served as a tenure-track and later tenured Associate Professor of Psychology, teaching a broad range of undergraduate psychology courses and mentoring student research teams. His later leadership work extended his interest in learning and evidence from the classroom to the institution as a whole. Across senior administrative and executive roles, he has helped institutions strengthen educational assessment, academic program review, accreditation strategy and response, strategic planning, data-informed decision-making, faculty development, and continuous improvement. This work reflects his consistent commitment to helping colleges and universities better understand their students, improve their programs, and align evidence with institutional purpose. Drawing on his experience as a professor and university leader, Dr. Houska helps students think critically and creatively, use evidence thoughtfully, collaborate across differences, and lead purposeful lives.
